What Is a Donor-Advised Fund?

A donor-advised fund is a charitable giving account that allows you to contribute funds or other eligible assets, receive any applicable charitable tax benefit at the time of your contribution, and recommend grants to qualified nonprofit organizations over time.

If you have already established a DAF, recommending a grant to the Seena Magowitz Foundation may be one of the easiest ways to put your charitable funds to work for pancreatic cancer patients and their families.

Depending on your donor-advised fund provider, you may be able to make your support go even further.

You may have the option to:

  • Recommend recurring grants to the Seena Magowitz Foundation
  • Make a gift in honor or memory of someone special
  • Recommend that your graant support a particular Foundation program or area of need
  • Name the Seena Magowitz Foundation as a charitable successor or beneficiary of your donor-advised fund

Donor-Advised Fund FAQs

  1. Can I use my DAF to support a specific Seena Magowitz Foundation program?

    You may recommend that your grant support a particular Foundation program or charitable purpose. Grant restrictions are subject to approval by both your DAF sponsor and the Seena Magowitz Foundation.

    If you have a particular area of interest, contact us before submitting your grant and we will be happy to help.

  2. Can I make a DAF gift in honor or memory of someone?

    Many donor-advised fund providers allow you to include an honorary or memorial designation when recommending your grant.

    If you would like the Seena Magowitz Foundation to notify someone of your tribute gift, please include their information with your grant recommendation or contact our team.

  3. Can I use my DAF to pay for an event ticket, table or sponsorship?

    Generally, donor-advised fund grants cannot provide more than an incidental personal benefit to the donor or another individual. This means DAF funds typically cannot be used to purchase event tickets, tables or sponsorship packages that include admission, goods or other benefits.

    If you are interested in supporting a Seena Magowitz Foundation event through your DAF, please contact us before submitting your grant so we can help determine an appropriate charitable giving option.

  4. Will I receive another charitable tax deduction when my DAF sends the grant?

    Generally, any applicable charitable deduction is associated with your original contribution to your donor-advised fund rather than with subsequent grants recommended from the fund.

    Tax circumstances vary. Please consult your DAF sponsor, tax professional or legal advisor regarding your individual situation.

  5. Can I make recurring gifts from my DAF?

    Many DAF providers allow donors to schedule recurring grant recommendations. Check with your DAF sponsor to determine whether recurring grants are available through your account.

  6. What if I don’t see my DAF provider in the giving tool?

    You can still recommend a grant directly through your provider.
